Microsoft makes Nepal Skype calls free

Microsoft has announced that Skype calls to and from Nepal will be free following a deadly earthquake.

The company said that Skype calls to landlines and cellphones in and out of Nepal will be free of charge, with immediate effect.

Microsoft said that the free Skype calls are part of its $1-million donation drive for Nepal, with the figure including cash, technology and services.
"Finally, we are in the midst of direct conversations with government officials, nonprofits and businesses in the region to determine the best deployment of our technology in this time of need and hour by hour, we will continue to assess how our technology and people can help with the rescue and relief efforts in Nepal," read an excerpt on Microsoft's Disaster Response blog.
