Force Motors sees 10-fold jump in luxury car engine assembly

Force Motors on Wednesday said that the company has witnessed a ten-fold increase in the assembly of luxury car engines in last three years.

“When we started we used to assemble around 100 engines a month and now we are doing a 1,000 engines a month in the luxury car segment and it will grow over the next few years,” said Prasan Firodia, MD, Force Motors.

The company, which assembles engines for Mercedes Benz India at a plant in Urse, near Pune has a assembly line of around 5,000 engines. This plant will now be moved to Chakan, which has an enhanced capacity of 20,000 engines as well as 20,000 front and real axles.

The company’s new plant in Chakan, was formally inaugurated by Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday.

The company assembles engines and axles for all Mercedes cars and SUVs (C, E, S and GL class vehicles) with eight engine assembly lines putting together 14 engine variants of diesel and petrol engines. It has invested R100 crore in Chakan plant.

Force Motors has also set up a similar 20,000 engine assembly last year for BMW in Chennai.
