Microsoft is trying to woo students in the US to buy its latest Surface tablet, the Surface Pro 4, by offering it along with the Xbox One console and discounting the final price by $300. This means that if students buy the Surface Pro 4 along with the Xbox One from the company's retail stores, they would get the Xbox One free of cost. The offer is valid till August 14. The promotional offer comes just days after the company announced that it will stop production of Surface 3 end of this year. Microsoft's decision to stop the production of Surface 3 tablets is expected to help push sales of Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book in the market. Microsoft launched Surface 3 in March 2015.
The device sports 10.8-inch full-HD display and ran Windows 8.1 OS out-of-the-box. However, the OS was upgradeable to Windows 10. The tablet was launched in two variants based on RAM and inbuilt storage.
The company recently also revealed that there is no Surface 3 successor in the works so far. However, according to a report, Microsoft might be planning to bring new 2-in-1 tablets along with the next big overhaul of Windows 10 [codenamed Redstone] expected to take place in 2017.
The company is also said to be working on a Surface-branded smartphone. According to the latest rumours, this device is likely to arrive in the second half of 2016, but latest rumours claim that the timeframe has been further pushed to early 2017.
Microsoft at its recent E3 2016 gaming conference launched its much-rumoured Xbox One S gaming console, which is slimmer and 40% smaller than the current Xbox One.
