Galaxy S6 currently has second best display of all smartphones: DisplayMate

Even though there's still a good odd month to go before Samsung starts officially selling its new flagship, the Galaxy S6, the device is already generating rave reviews across the length and breadth of the tech world, which is of course good news for the South Korean giant. Samsung has always been renowned for its Super AMOLED displays that form the key backbone and selling point for its high-end devices, simply because they look too good.

The company seems to put in lot of effort in developing devices that are able to fit in an astonishing amount of pixels. Take for instance the Galaxy Note 4. Samsung's 5.7-inch phablet is what you call an engineering marvel in terms of display output. In our detailed review of the device we had clearly mentioned it to be the best screen ever put in a smartphone or tablet. Folks back at DisplayMate had similar views, in fact the technology company that makes hardware to test computer and phone screens had deemed it miles ahead of Apple's iPhone 6.
And now, DisplayMate is back at it again. This time round the new Galaxy S6 has caught their fancy and how. According to the result findings of their lab testing, DisplayMate said that the Galaxy S6 is every bit a display marvel as its larger 2014 sibling, the Note 4. In terms of final verdict, the Galaxy S6 is now the second display ever created to score 'Very Good to Excellent' scores across the board in all their tests. The Galaxy Note 4 is still number one though, but the point here is that Samsung is clearly the winner and the iPhone 6 still remains to be just 'fantastic'.
During its grand showcase at the recently concluded MWC event in Barcelona the Galaxy S6 was critically hailed across quarters for packing in the same display size of last year's S5 yet having substantially beefed up resolution, i.e. the number of pixels on screen. The Galaxy S6 boasts of a Quad-HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution that roughly translates to 577 ppi. This is a significant improvement over the 5.1-inch 1080p display of the S5 (432ppi).
Based on a broad set of tests including trials for peak brightness and contrast in high ambient light, DisplayMate has found that the S6 has a 27% higher amount of color accuracy and a 20% higher power efficiency over the S5.
"The Galaxy S6 has more than double the resolution and more than 4 times the number of pixels as the iPhone 6. It also has significantly higher peak Brightness, significantly higher Contrast Ratio in both low and high Ambient Light, significantly higher Absolute Color Accuracy, significantly better Viewing Angel performance, and has 4 selectable screen modes instead of a single fixed one on the iPhones," according to DisplayMate.
We were pretty impressed with the display output of the Galaxy S6 in our first impressions. Based on that one thing is certain, Samsung was not kidding when it said, it had gone back to the drawing board for this one. Let's just say the end result is quite pleasing to the eye.
